Greetings from Rwanda.
We have been in country for close to a week and it is as beautiful as I remember. It has, however, changed a great deal. Construction is booming and the Capital city of Kigali has done much to improve it’s appearance with gardens and less pollution.
We have traveled out to the country side to check on our past solar projects and have found that everything is running as expected, except where human error has occurred. One of the marine batteries that stores power must have had something placed on top of the terminals and it was ruined, but the other batteries have picked up the slack.
Everyone is impressed with the K Light and it looks as if we will have our micro grant program up and running this summer. We have had meetings with officials here who will be working with other organizations to set up teams of three women with a small business to sell the lanterns. The pilot program will start in Kigali, but we believe it will not be long before it spreads through the country, and then across the continent.
The weather has been cool, albeit wet. When we arrived, many people remarked at how this rainy season has not been as wet as needed. That seems to have changed with our arrival. I am used to being here in the dryer months, and although it is muddy, I prefer it to the dust.
Hope this note finds all who read it well and I will try to add some content as the days go on.
